ROOF — Look Up From the Ground
- Missing, lifted, curled or visibly damaged shingles
- Dark patches or areas that look different from the rest of the roof
- Excessive shingle granules collecting near downspouts
- Flashing around chimneys, vents or skylights that looks loose or damaged
- Tree limbs touching or hanging too close to the roof
- Any sagging or uneven-looking areas along the roofline
GUTTERS & DOWNSPOUTS — Follow the Water
- Gutters pulling away from the house or visibly sagging
- Leaves, pine needles or other debris building up
- Water stains on siding beneath the gutters
- Loose, disconnected or damaged downspouts
- Signs of water pooling or soil erosion near the foundation
- Downspouts directing water safely away from the house
SIDING — Walk the Perimeter
- Cracks, warping, buckling or loose siding
- Fading or discoloration in areas that receive intense sun
- Green, black or dark staining that could indicate persistent moisture
- Gaps or deteriorating caulk around windows and doors
- Peeling or bubbling paint
- Soft, damaged or deteriorating areas around trim, soffits or fascia
ONE LAST LOOK
Stand back from your home and look at the entire exterior. Does anything seem different than it did at the beginning of summer? Pay attention to rooflines, gutters, siding, trim and areas where water drains.
